Some choose a magickal name that they wish to be known as; in fact I have often been asked what made me choose my name “Soraya”. I am actually named after my grandmother and although the proper spelling and pronunciation was Thouraya over the years it became Soraya and it means the ‘Brightest Star in the Galaxy of Seven Stars.’

The 17^th Tarot card in the Major Arcana of the Rider Waite, and several other decks, is indeed a bright star  surrounded by seven smaller ones. The interpretation of this card means fame, success, accomplishment, recognition. ( fingers crossed).
I don’t believe for a minute that this was my parent’s intention when they named me. Synchronicity! You may also be surprised to hear that the consonants in my name which are S R Y have numerical values which also add up to 17!

Your magickal name is something that only you should know and the members of your coven if you work in one. The reason for this is fairly simple. Witches believe that your words have power therefore if someone gossips about you or uses your name to say something bad about you, the power of these word can act like a hex. Hence keeping your magickal name a secret protects you from harm or negative energies. If you wish to change your name to something that you will be known as then it must be different from your secret name that you would use during rituals, coven work or spell working.

Either way considerable research should be done into the choosing of your name or names as they have power. If you are very timid as a person you should choose a strong magical name for example a timid or quiet man might use ‘Storm’. A strong woman might use ‘Sky’. Try to avoid names of people who have had very bad or difficult lives as your path may then echo theirs.

Names of crystals can be effective and the crystal of that type can become  a totem stone for you. There are lots to choose from such as Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Turquoise, Amber, Jet, Jade, Beryl and Topaz are all nice names and powerful crystals to work with too.

You can experiment with numerology and create or choose a name that has a vibration to suit your purpose. A name that adds up to one will bestow the owner with leadership qualities.  For instance
