Full Moon Esbat Text

A FULL MOON ESBAT prepared and narrated by Soraya

Prepare your altar and have your candles, incense, water and salt in place and any tools or accessories you need on your altar. Stand facing your altar and prepare your mind and heart for the ritual that you are about to perform.

Repeat these words

“The temple is about to be erected; the circle is about to be cast. Let none be here except of their own free will.”

Spend a moment or two thinking about the Lord and Lady and their love for you. Send out your love to them and welcome them.

Light your incense and carry it around your circle clockwise saying,

“Here do I bring into the east light and air to illuminate this temple and bring it the breath of life”

Light the east candle and say,

“Here do I bring into the east light and air to illuminate this temple and bring it the breath of life”

Light the south candle and say,

“Here do I bring into the South light and fire to illuminate this temple and bring it warmth,”

Light the west candle and say,

“Here do I bring into the west light and water to illuminate this temple and wash it clean.”

Light the north candle and say,

“Here do I bring light and earth to illuminate this temple and build it in strength.”

Return to your altar and light the alter candle.

Draw your circle line with your wand, athame, or the point of your finger starting at the east, then the south, the west, then the north – and back to the east.

Touch the salt with your finger and say,

As salt is life, let it purify me in all ways that I may use it. Letting it cleanse body and spirit in dedication to the God and Goddess.

Place 3 pinches of salt into your dish of water and using your finger stir the water clockwise

Take the bowl of water to the east and begin to sprinkle it around from the east to the south, to the west, the north completing the circle back at the east. Place the water dish on the altar

From your altar, point to the east with your athame wand or finger and draw a pentacle in the air saying,

“With air fire water and earth, I purify and charge the east. Hail guardians of the watchtower of the east, by the air that is thy breath, may you stand in strength ever watching over this circle.”

Point to the south and draw a pentacle in the air saying,

“With fire water earth and air I purify and charge the south. Hail guardians of the watchtower of the south, by the fire that is thy spirit, send forth thy flame to stand in strength ever watching over this circle”

Point at the west and draw a pentacle in the air saying,

“With water, earth, air, and fire, I purify and charge the west. Hail guardians of the watchtower of the west, by the waters of thy living womb may you stand in strength ever watching over this circle.”

Point at the north, draw a pentacle in the air saying.

“With earth, air, fire, and water, I purify and charge the north. Hail guardians of the watchtower of the north, by the earth that is thy body may you stand in strength ever watching over this circle.”

Stand quietly for a few moments and then draw a pentacle in the air above you say,

“Lord and Lady be with us in prayer and speak to us in our heart. You have been kind and we thank you for all that you have given us yet you listen when we call upon you. We thank you for the favours you have bestowed, and we remember that you only help those who help themselves.”

Spend some time in quiet contemplation and perform any spell or craftwork and recite any verse that you have prepared to empower your intention.

When you have completed any tasks say,

“As these prayers ascend to the Gods, well we know the Wiccan Rede, and it harm none do what thou will.

We know that whatever is done, whatever is asked of the Gods, it must harm no one for whatever is sent forth will return three times

If we send of ourselves in light and love that will return threefold but if we send harm by word deed or action that too will return threefold.

Lord and Lady, our thanks to you for sharing this time with us guarding and guiding us in all things.

Merry we meet, merry we part, merry we meet again

The temple will now be closed.”

Start at the east and say,

“Take for your use Guardians of the east any powers air that have not been used.

Take for your use Guardians of the south any powers fire that have not been used.

Take for your use Guardians of the west any powers water that have not been used.

Take for your use Guardians of the north any powers earth that have not been used.
